Support

Get help without sending your documents anywhere.

PDF-dactyl is built for local processing, so support should focus on reproduction details, device context, and workflow steps rather than the content of your files.

Do not send sensitive originals unless necessary

If a sample file is required, send a scrubbed non-sensitive reproduction when possible. The support workflow should preserve the same privacy posture as the app itself.

Fastest troubleshooting path

  1. Confirm whether the issue is happening in draft review or after sanitized export.
  2. Note whether the source file is text-based, scanned, or mixed.
  3. Record the sanitization level and whether OCR was enabled.
  4. Capture the exact step where behavior diverged from expectation.
  5. Send the smallest non-sensitive reproduction you can make, only if needed.

What support can usually answer quickly

  • import and draft-opening issues
  • term matching and OCR review behavior
  • export validation and audit-report questions
  • hash verification workflow questions
  • compatibility differences between iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Common questions

Why can I remove redactions in a draft but not after export? The draft project is intended for review. The sanitized export is intended for sharing and is treated as final by the app.
Why does OCR not catch every phrase in a bad scan? OCR is best-effort and depends on source quality, skew, contrast, and compression. Review OCR-derived results before export.
Why might a sanitized page lose selectable text? Redacted pages may be rebuilt through rasterization to prioritize safer final content over retaining a searchable text layer on those pages.
Why does PDF-dactyl sometimes show full text from a redacted-looking import? That only happens when the file still contains extractable text already, such as a hidden text layer or removable annotations. The feature is intended for authorized audit and correction of sloppy redaction workflows.
Do you upload my PDFs? No. OCR, search, redaction, report generation, hashing, and validation are performed on-device.

Support should never require you to weaken the app’s privacy model. If you need to demonstrate a bug, prefer a scrubbed sample that preserves the issue without exposing the real document.
